Glee TV Show in the UK

0 Comments 02 February 2010

I threatened to do it on Twitter and here it is, my review of why you should be watching Glee.

Glee TV Show UK

I will start by saying it has already won a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy so it’s not going to be totally crap however I know some people are turned off by the adverts for the show, no it’s not High School the Musical, it’s a little bit more grown up in an immature kind of way… Actually think about it as HSM meets Nip and Tuck (cause one of the guys behind Glee also done Nip and Tuck).

What is Glee

It’s basically a comedy that follows a Glee club at an American school, only this is an even bigger set of misfits and losers than most would normally have, so I am led to believe. The cool guy quarter back (Finn) is blackmailed into joining and as each week passes things get a little darker, the whole show is very non-PC.

If you are not laughing your arse off at Sue the cheerleaders coach and how Sue sees it then I am sorry for wasting your time. And when the football team is doing the Single Ladies Dance if your not laughing as well as cringing just a little then I am afraid there is no hope for you, why not turn on the News channel you boring old fart :-)

Glee “Single Ladies” Football Team Dance

And let’s not forget about Rachel the lead singer in the Glee club, she kind of reminds me of one of my friends, not saying who but if you know her, you will know what I mean in a nice way of course ;-) It will be no surprise that the girl who plays the part has been on a few Broadway shows, in fact I was thinking she would be great in Les Misérables due to her version of “On My Own” and turns out she played a Young Cosette when she was 9 on Broadway and also played Eponine at the Hollywood Bowl production of Les Mis, so there you go.

Don’t Stop Believin’ is probally how most people who have not actually seen Glee know the show, it was no.2 the UK charts, not bad for a TV show cover.

Glee: Don’t Stop Believin’ Music Video

The Cast

Lots of main roles in the Glee TV Show, stand out for me, for the guys it’s Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) and Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer). For the girls it’s Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron), Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) and Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch).

Guys Will Like Just as Much as Girls

Now guys I know what you’re thinking, musical comedy is not something you would enjoy, in fact some of you might even question your ‘manly ways’ should you ever be caught watching one. Well let me put your fears to rest with this little clip of Quinn Fabray (played by Dianna Agron) she is the head high school cheerleader and head of the celibacy club (who is up the duff) and this is her addition for the Glee Club :-) .

Believe me after seeing that I was saying a little prayer ;-)

By doing this blog post I have become a Gleek! (Glee Geek) How very sad but hey, it’s a show worth watching and if enough people do it should carry on a few seasons for sure. :-)
…..
You can watch Glee on E4, E4 HD and it is repeated on Channel 4 in the UK.
…..
Note About Videos: For some reason Fox in Mexico were the only ones to upload the football single ladies and don’t stop believin video in full and some how managed to upload it back to front, if you seen the show you will know what I mean and if you have not notice the TV station icon is on the left and back to front and the footballers tops have numbers that are back to front ;-)

Facebook Privacy Settings Guide

0 Comments 28 November 2009

This is 2nd in my basic guides to privacy settings on social media sites, the last one covered Bebo Privacy Settings and this one covers Facebook Privacy Settings, it’s aimed as a basic guide to parents that want to know what options they should tick to make the Facebook experience a little more private.

Facebook Privacy Page Location

After you log on to Facebook (1) click the link at the top right hand side called “settings” and then (2) click the link “Privacy Settings”. See Image Below.

fb-01

Facebook has 2 main privacy pages that you want to select option on (3) is the Profile privacy settings and (4) is the search privacy settings.

Facebook Profile Privacy Page Options

Here is a screen shot of my recommended privacy settings, below. I recommend that you switch every setting on this page to “Only Friends”. You have the option to either allow friends to post on your wall or not, I allow it however it’s up to you if you’re going to allow it or not.

fb-02

Facebook Search Privacy Page Options

This screen shot is about what people will find via search engines etc and how people discover you on Facebook. To block out all search would make it very hard for you to be found by your real friends, equally you want to control how you’re found and what people see.

fb-03

Search Discovery: Set search visibility to Only Friends.

Search Results: You can tick all boxes in this section, I personally don’t tick the box what pages I am a fan of, as my friends can see this and reduces the information about you for people who are not your friends.

In addition: Don’t tick any of these boxes unless you really want to be found this way. The options above already ticked will allow your real friends to find you, so no real point to these, adult members might want to be found by people they went to university with or a company they worked but can’t remember their full name etc.

You should read the additional tips on the Bebo Privacy Setting Guide as they are valid on Facebook and other online sites for that matter.

Bebo Privacy Settings Guide

0 Comments 18 October 2009

I was asked to write a basic guide to privacy settings on Bebo for parents of older children at my son’s school, and I am sharing a version here in hope it helps a few people understand what they need to do to make their Bebo experience a little more private.

Bebo have a pretty good online safety page so view the video’s here, as no point in me repeating the same advice. Check out the Bebo safety videos, here.

Ok let’s start by saying Bebo is meant for folk who are 13 years or older, but of course there are hundreds of thousands of kids younger than this using Bebo, so if they are going to use it they might as well be safer when they do so.

Bebo Privacy Page Location

After you log on to Bebo (1) select the link in the black bar “settings” and then (2) click the link “Privacy Settings”. See Image below.

Bebo Privacy Page Options

I have made a screen shot of my recommended privacy settings, below but I will take you through each step here also.

Profile Viewable By: My friends only.

Contact Age: You decide the max and min here, personally if you have all the other settings done I wouldn’t bother too much with this one.

Age: (Tick This Box)

Profile Views: (Tick This Box)

Online Now: (Un-Tick This Box)

Member Since: You decide here as it’s doesn’t matter that much.

Searchable: (Un-Tick This Box)

Posting: (Tick This Box)

Review Comments: (Select) Review all comments.

Applications: (Un-Tick This Box)

That is basic steps to setting up your privacy page on Bebo, below are some additional tips that I hope help.

Friends Tip – Don’t approve everyone, don’t approve people you do not know. Stick to approving your family and friends only, strangers are strangers no matter what age they are or say they are.

Location Tip – It’s really best that you don’t give out your location, what school you attend, year you’re in and so on. Having younger sister-in-laws I know fine well they give out far too much information, so it’s best you know who your Bebo friends are.

Photo Tip – Any photo you post online can be taken and used by anyone without your permission. Be sure you really want to post that image of you in a bikini or that funny photo where you dressed up. Harmless photo for friends and family to see, but what if someone printed it off, then handed it out around school? Think about what you want others you don’t know so well to see.

Additional Tip For Parents
– I personally would make it a condition that my son/daughter had me as the parent listed as a friend in their profile so I could easily check what information they are posting online via Bebo. Some people will see that as a privacy invasion, so have to go with whatever view you as a family hold.

If you have any other tips on privacy and staying safe using Bebo please comment, as I would love to hear them.

Twitter Updates on Facebook & Bebo

0 Comments 10 October 2009

A couple of people have asked me how I update Twitter, Facebook and Bebo at the same time from my personal Twitter account and also update Twitter and Facebook only with my work orientated Twitter account. So I am going to try and explain what I am doing as it may be helpful for others who I don’t know and are searching to the solution to this puzzle, multi-Twitter account updates across Twitter, Facebook, Bebo & others.

I will break down each example, but you can run all of these at the same time, but how you post will effect what is updated with your Status, this can be handy for example when you want to say something to only your Twitter account and it not show on Facebook or Bebo, I will give posting examples at the end of this blog.

Status update on Twitter and Facebook

This is one of the more simple ones to set-up, all you have to do all you have to do is add the Facebook Application called “Twitter” (click here to install, opens in new window)  so now what will happen is every time you Twitter your status on Facebook will also update, very simple.

Status update on Twitter, Facebook, Bebo & Others

Say you want your Twitter messages to update Facebook, Bebo and other social networks, then you want to use Ping.fm it’s not to hard to set-up and very handy if you have more than just Twitter & Facebook that you want to update. Simply select all the places you want to update via Ping.fm and when you want to update Twitter, Facebook & Bebo at the same time, just do it via your Ping.fm interface.

But you want to do it from your iPhone I hear you cry; well good news is the Twitter application Echofon supports Ping.fm integration so it’s a simple case of setting up the Ping.fm API on the Echofon iPhone App. So now when you Twitter from your iPhone, your Facebook and Bebo (plus others) can be updated at the same time.

update-echofon

Now don’t worry any @ replys or DM’s will not show up on Facebook or Bebo, it’s only your actually tweets and re-tweets.

Why do this, isn’t Twitter enough?

Well for some Twitter is more than enough, but what I have found is that by integrating Twitter with Facebook and Bebo it opens up new conversations that you don’t have on Twitter alone, especially when some of your friends are not using Twitter. My @ClarkeDuncan Twitter account is more work orientated but still has a personality, where as @Supercod Twitter is very much my personal Twitter account in that I be talking about TV shows, Films or other stuff I feel like that people following my work Twitter probably don’t want to hear.

However if your following me on Facebook, your probably a mix of friends, family and folk I have some work interest with and as Facebook is more of a social platform to me I wanted to share both my Twitter work feed and Twitter personal feed on Facebook. Bebo on the other hand is very much personal/social only as everyone on that is either a family member or an old friend with a few exceptions of the odd person I know via Affiliate Marketing so they will mostly be only interested in personal Twitter stuff as work stuff will probably bore most of them :-)

Posting Examples

Twitter + Facebook Set-up

If you post to Twitter from any application or from the web interface it will show on Twitter & Facebook at the same time.

Twitter + Facebook + Bebo & Others Set-up

If you post via the Twitter web interface it will only show on Twitter.

If you post via the Ping.fm web interface it will show across all.

If you post via Echofon with Ping.fm integration setup it will show across all.

If you post via any other App it will show on Twitter only.

At no point will either of these methods show @ replies or DM’s.

Hope this was of help to some people, if it was why not let me know via Twitter @ClarkeDuncan cheers :-)
