What I did this afternoon! Vodafone Liveguy

As many of you know I lead a busy life being a director at a few Internet companies, my typical day will start after dropping off my son at school I go in to the office, solving problems, reading blogs, coming up with ideas and working away on various projects with the odd meeting thrown in for good measure.

Getting closer to lunch time when I get an MSN message from Fraser “why are you not out finding the liveguy?” what on earth is he on about, so I ask and sends me a link to his blog post on the Vodafone Liveguy. The day before he was in Edinburgh and Fraser decided he would go look for him after it was clear that very few others had taken the leap from desktop to out and about. So what did I do, went off for lunch and decided I too would track him down, and I did. With Frasers help back at his Affiliate Command Centre he guided me like a Cruise Missile straight to the building the Liveguy had ducked in to, however when he came out of the building I was just up a bit outside Scottish Screen’s Glasgow HQ and missed him by like 10 seconds as someone else who decide to take the afternoon off work got in with the magic phrase.

So we have one Affiliate Marketing winner in Edinburgh, I have let the side down for Glasgow but Newcastle is next, will Kieron strike another blow for people who work but when something interesting Internet wise comes along go running from the office with any excuse just to take part even when they don’t actually want the prize, they just want to win!

Fusion Charts - Makes Graphs Look Good

I just did a blog post over at one of my company websites Paid On Results affiliate marketing company. About the new charts and graphs we are installing this weekend on the Affiliate and Merchants control areas.

Lots of people have asked me about these graphs before, as most of you see them back at the start of August on a website of another company of mine House Price Spy, free house prices website. If you check out the graphs here for various house price trends you will see they look rather good and while like to take the credit for making them it was in fact a company called Fusion Charts, what is most shocking is the price points you can buy the software in at from as little as $69 all the way to $1,999 and believe me these prices are amazingly good especially with the flexibility on how you can use the charts. I expect to see a lot more Affiliate sites using these in future as why use boring dull crap looking charts when these stuff is such great value.

Adobe Flash Player Exploit

Time to update your Flash Player, to 9.0.124.0 (however that’s just until Adobe release another version hopefully soon) as looks like an exploit is doing the rounds on some websites that could install software to steal your usernames and passwords.

Article over at Security Focus, gives more details “Adobe investigates Flash Player attacks”. Update your Flash Player today at the official Adobe site, go here to do this now!

eBay Selling

These days eBay selling stuff you no longer want is a lot easier, even taking the photo of the item has become simple task as more and more people these days have a digital camera.

I was showing my sister how to list items via eBay and I was shocked to see just how simple they have managed to make it, years ago when I used to buy and selling stuff on eBay for fun you had to know a bit of HTML to get a half decent listing, these days it’s one simple page that you fill in, upload your photo(s) on that page and press the button and your listing is live… costing around 25p to list the item.

So instead of letting your old stuff gather dust, waiting for the day you chuck them out, why not chuck them up on eBay and make a few quid.

Zen Internet Provider

Well that’s me finally switched away from Nildram to Zen Internet as my ADSL provider. Have been with Nildram for many years but the signal of their down fail happened many moons back when the service would have problems connecting to the World of Warcraft servers in France, but in more recent times they got bought over by Pipex and they in turn are owned by Tiscali and that’s when some of the more annoying issues started to appear, basically they switched all the Nildram customer on to the Pipex network and what basically this meant was that you where paying top dollar for a second rate service, you know the same cheapo service that your average person who has no clue about Internet providers would expect accept you would be paying pro-consumer prices and that was why I finally made the move to Zen Internet. Zen was on my short list many years ago when first picking an ADSL provider but at the time Nildram was who I went for, so here is hoping Zen works out as there is very few good providers left, so far so good!

Favicon Generator

When researching how to create a favicon.ico file (you know the little image you see in the address bar of some websites) I found the following website Dynamic Drive to be very good when you are looking for a favicon generator. The creator allows you to convert from gif, jpg, png and bmp files and can even deal with transparent gif or png files also.
