RM Skills Centre

No Comments 18 March 2010

RM Skills Centre is a Roads and Construction Industry training centre based in Craigton in Glasgow.

The centre has been running for a number of years offering courses from Road Works Training to Confined Spaces Training.

What’s impressive is that RM Skills has remained an independent SQA Approved centre all this time when you consider the “competition” ranges from colleges to councils. The reason customers go to them is their expertise and the fact that many of the industry standard courses and new ones yet to be adopted originated from RM Skills, a true credit to the roads and construction industry and something to think about if you’re looking for nationally recognised qualifications.

Visit the RM Skills Centre website for more information or call them on 0141 810 5477, their address is RM Skills Centre Ltd. Block 7A, Barfillan Drive, Craigton Industrial Estate, Glasgow, G52 1BD.

No Comments 30 November 2009

I was just looking at Amazon.co.uk for ideas for presents for my sons, so clicked on Bestsellers In Toy & Games section and at No.30 I find “Official Borat Mankini Thong” LOL ;-)

mankini

A little more checking and not only has it been listed in the Toys and Games section since at least November 2008 but it also has the following helpful information ” Toy Safety – Manufacturer’s minimum age: 18 years”. Way to go Amazon :-)

Remembrance Day

1 Comment 11 November 2008

Remembrance Day is something that I was taught about in School however the BB and the Cub Scouts really sent the message home, I remember going on parades with the BB on Remembrance Sunday.

Remembrance Day however doesn’t normally fall on a Sunday and the actual day set aside is the 11th of November so we remember the sacrifices by people during wars. This post was written before 11am today and queued on the server to publish on 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month and you will find that most business, shops, train stations etc will observe a 2 minutes of silence.

It’s worth remembering that even if you don’t agree with war, the people that go to fight in our name do so to protect our country and only because the politicians we elected tell them to do so, if you don’t like a war do something about the people in power but always support our troops. Pay your respects to the people who have died in our name and let’s not forget that during current wars the men and woman in our armed forces that fight for us.

Teaching the Teachers

No Comments 09 October 2008

It’s not often you can teach a teacher a new trick or two but that’s what happened his week. Managed to get myself roped in to helping my son’s primary school get its website live. They us a council funded content managment system to manage the site, all the local schools use it from what I can work out and while it’s better than many I have seen. It is a bit over complex for what should be a pretty straight forward system. Nothing I couldn’t work out, in fact I never even bothered looking at the manual.

Anyway I am pleased to say that the Hillington Primary School website is now live. I didn’t do all the pages just a few and got the images uploaded. Also took the photograph of the school but I need to go back and do again as it was 6pm when I took that shot so the shutter is down and I faked the sky, it’s actually from one of my Portugal photographs ;-)

No Money for a Train Ticket!

1 Comment 10 July 2008

This morning I make my way to get the train, short walk probably 1/4 of a mile away from my house. Was reading some mail from the accountants as I walked to catch the train, normal cheery mail, time to pay the government thousands of pounds in tax, yeah it’s coming to the end of July and the Government wants’ it’s protection money.

Anyway I arrive at the station and as I go down the stairs towards the ticket office I check my pocket for my wallet, crap left my wallet in the house no worries always have bunch of pound coins kicking about, crap £1.70 in my pocket. Oh joy have to walk back home, miss this train and come back again. As I about turn to head off, I hear Ian the ticket guy shout “Clarke, did you forget your money” I am like “yeap”, he shouts back “no bother, I will get your tickets for you, can pay me back next time” very decent of Ian as he was issuing my tickets he was like do you want to borrow a score (£20 to you people who don’t understand money slang) I said thanks but I can borrow some money off someone in the office.

Now this got me thinking, how many other places in the UK (keep in mind I live in Glasgow so not a small town) can you go to a train station having forgot your money and the ticket guy offers to pay it for you? Not many I bet, heck I doubt most people even know the name of the person issuing the tickets. How do I know his name, well basically he has been at the station about year and half he issues my ticket without me having to say where I am going, normally conversation is “how you doing”, “not bad”, “here is your ticket Clarke”, “cheers Ian” LOL yes in-depth stuff but fact he could be bothered to remember my ticket was enough for him to get a small Christmas Present last year, 2 bottles of wine in a box… Now you may be thinking hang on you gave the ticket guy a Christmas Present, that’s a bit random, well yeah it maybe accept this is someone I see and speak to every day and as he has always been nice pleasant guy I though, he deserved something.. And what do you know 6 months later I forget my train fare and he is letting me pay him back later, they do say what goes around comes around but think it’s normally if you do a bad thing, but I guess it works for good things also LOL ;)

Thought I would blog about it as it’s good to know decent people are kicking about, and if you get train, bus or whatever maybe you will take the time to speak to the people you meet every day.
