Rangers Riots Manchester 2008

2 Comments 15 May 2008

The Rangers Riots in Manchester, here is the video’s from CCTV and people’s mobile phones uploaded to Youtube, I am sure more will be uploaded over the coming days but it gives you an idea what happened when the Boys in Blue attacked the Boys in Blue. Never seen anything like it, Rangers “fans” attacking Rangers fans and one Police Officer gets a kick-in as he foolishly stays behind to take the mob on single handed, you can see the CCTV footage you probably seen on TV and then a guy out of his flat filming it from the other side as you clearly see a Rangers fan helping the Officer get out the area dragging him down the street.

Simple fact is Glasgow and Manchester is so close together it made the trip down easy for the Neds and with the big screen failing it gave them all they needed to kick off mini-riots, however some of the footage shows Police Officers randomly giving fans who are standing still doing nothing the odd kick-in, think the Police had their own mini-group of trouble making Neds in their ranks getting paid to dish out some random violence. Wonder how many of the kids in the crowd got injured, it’s a shame as well as it all started off looking like a great day out on the TV.

Will add more video’s if I find any decent quality videos.

I was horrified to see how it’d all gone so badly wrong in such a short space of time. Earlier I’d watched journalists revelling in the amazing atmosphere in the city centre, with the thousands of people crowded about. It did look really seriously packed though and I’m surprised they hadn’t already opted for taking them to Heaton Park or one of the stadiums to just make it more comfortable for people.
Instead after a major catastrophe with a TV screen chaos rules and people became upset and angry. Quite how this turned into the pack like behaviour I’m not sure. I feel sorry for the innocent fans who’ve been injured on what should have been a lovely afternoon!
The slating journos gave Manchester within hours of the fighting though was the complete opposite of what they’d been saying earlier on.
The rubbish left behind was a site to see though!

Neds is what it was, pure and simple, if the final had been held aboard very few of them could have afforded to make the trip but as it’s just 150 miles down the road they came in truck loads, after all it’s only a giro payment. I am sure Manchester Police where hoping for anyone but Rangers to be in the final and to be far it could have been a lot worse, as for the rubbish, well I think that’s kind of normal for events of that scale, I know Edinburgh at New Year is a tip the following day.. Hopefully Manchester made some cash out of the event, or at least the hotels, supermarkets, bars and off-licences did. Just a shame you guys are not getting to see the final on the big screens because of it, however I suspect that’s got something to do with, what if the screens failed a second time how would drunk home fans react especially as I am sure you have your far share of Neds (Chavs as you call them) and I doubt Manchester City Council could cope with another event in such a short period of time going wrong especially if it was home support.
